SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR............
The island of St. Croix is only 50 miles from Tortola and still most people living in the BVI have never been there. One of the main reasons is, that it is just too difficult and time consuming to get there. First you have to take the ferry to St. Thomas and then a seaplane the rest of the way, altogether no less than 2 hours and at least $220!

Together with St. John and St. Thomas it was a Danish colony for more than 200 years and that presence can still be felt. The main town, Christiansted lies on the North coast and was the capital of this colony for a long time. At one point it was even the biggest city in all Denmark, including Copenhagen! Many of the old buildings have been restored and are now converted to shops, hotels and restaurants. |

St . Croix also has two 18 holes golf courses. The course at the Carambola Golf & Country Club is no less than stunning. It was build in a lush and beautiful valley in the 1960'on a former sugar cane plantation. The Buccaneer is right on the water and also has a driving range. At the East end of the island there is a 9 hole course, The Reef. |
